Attempted hangings thwarted

Two male inmates in separate pods at the Barton County Jail attempted to hang themselves using sheets this past weekend, Undersheriff Bruce Green confirmed Tuesday. In each instance, another inmate noticed what was happening and alerted a detention officer before serious injury occurred.
The first case occurred Saturday night around 8:15 p.m.  After the sheet was taken from the inmate, an ambulance was called and he was checked by Emergency Medical Technicians. Then the Center for Counseling and Consultation was called and it was determined the jail did not need to send the inmate to Larned State Hospital. Instead, he was placed under a jail suicide watch.
The second incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on Sunday in A Pod. This inmate was also evaluated and was then transported to Larned State Hospital.
