Barton County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 57-year-old Geneseo Monday after controlled substances were found in the course of a traffic stop in Ellinwood.
According to Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir, at about 6:30 p.m. Monday, BCSO deputies stopped a green 1997 Chevrolet Suburban on Santa Fe Boulevard in Ellinwood for speeding. During the course the traffic stop, the BCSO K-9 unit was called to the scene. The canine indicated the presence of controlled substances. Further investigation revealed approximately 0.3 pounds of suspected methamphetamine. Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were also located in the vehicle. Further investigation indicated the methamphetamine was to be delivered in Barton County.
The driver was identified as Wayne H. Hunter Jr. of Geneseo. While Hunter was being arrested a 9 mm handgun was found on his person.
Hunter was arrested without incident and transported the Barton County Jail. He was booked on charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, criminal use of firearms and possession of drug paraphernalia. He’s being held in lieu of a $300,000 bond.
