The Barton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged stabbing incident in the Barton Hills subdivision north of Great Bend that occurred Thursday night.

According to Sheriff Brian Bellendir, officers were dispatched to 608 Windmill Lane around 8:44 p.m. for a report of a stabbing. Around the same time, they received a report of an individual hospitalized at the University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus with stab wounds in connection with the incident, identified as Justin Campbell. According to Bellendir, Campbell was taken to surgery Thursday night, though his injuries do not appear to be life threatening. His condition as of Friday morning is unknown.

Jonas Grubb of Great Bend was identified as a person of interest in the case, and BCSO officers made contact with both Grubb and Campbell. Bellendir said initial investigation indicates Grubb may have been acting in self-defense, though officers have not yet determined the circumstances which led up to the incident.

Bellendir said the incident is still under investigation and no arrests have yet been made in connection with the incident.
