The Barton County Sheriff’s Office has located a 22-year-old Great Bend man who allegedly fled the scene of a crash just northeast of Great Bend that resulted in multiple injuries Saturday night.

According to Sheriff Brian Bellendir, at about 9:45 p.m. Saturday, BCSO Deputies investigated a rollover crash in the 100 block of NE 10 Rd. Upon arrival, officers discovered a tan, 1998 Buick Park Avenue, which was not occupied. Sheriff’s deputies later located victims of the crash at the University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus.

Five juveniles were involved in the rollover. Three were 14 years old, one was 15 years old and one was 17 years old. At least one sustained serious spinal injuries and another juvenile sustained injuries requiring medical attention.

Investigation indicates the vehicle was operated by Adan Hernandez Jr., 22, of Great Bend. Deputies determined Hernandez lost control of the vehicle, which slid into the east ditch. At that point the car rolled one full turn, coming to rest on its wheels. Hernandez fled the scene. He was arrested Monday and booked into the Barton County Jail on multiple charges, including five counts of aggravated intimidation of a witness, five counts of aggravated endangerment of a child, failure to report a severe injury crash, driving while suspended, and no proof of insurance. He is currently being held in lieu of a $40,000 bond.
