CLAFLIN — A 32-yearold Claflin man and 1-yearold passenger were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash near Claflin Wednesday evening.
Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir reported that Matthew Burg, 32, was driving a 2004 Toyota Prius southbound on NE 130 Ave. nearing the intersection of K-156 known at the Claflin turnoff, at approximately 7:06 p.m. Wednesday. The Burg vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign and was struck by a 2018 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Laura Trinkle, 55, Manhattan, driving eastbound on K-156.
The pickup was unable to stop and upon impact, both vehicles traveled northeast leaving the roadway and came to rest in a field.
Burg and two juvenile occupants, aged 1 and 3, were transported to University of Kansas Health Systems - Great Bend campus. Burg and the 1-year-old were later transported to a Wichita area hospital with suspected serious injuries.
Trinkle, as well as two passengers aged 82 and 59, were transported to UKHS - Great Bend with non-life threatening injuries, Bellendir reported.
The Barton County Sheriff ’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Claflin Fire Department, Claflin EMS and Ellinwood EMS.
