Dorrance man killed in Sunday crash

RUSSELL COUNTY — A Dorrance man was killed in a one-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Russell County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that the 1994 Chevrolet 1500 pickup driven by Wad R. Dyer, 45, of Dorrance, was westbound on U.S. 40 one mile east of Dorrance at approximately 5:30 a.m. According to the report, the pickup crossed eastbound lanes and entered the ditch, continuing until it collided with a concrete bridge barrier. The vehicle then fell over the edge of the bridge and landed on its wheels in the ditch channel. Dyer, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.

Dyer was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Pohlman Varner Peeler Mortuary.
