Driver injured in single-vehicle crash Wednesday night

Forty-four-year-old Dawn Siebert of St. John was injured Wednesday night when her vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree south of Great Bend.

According to a Barton County Sheriff’s Office release, at about 9:33 p.m. Wednesday, BCSO deputies responded to a location on U.S. 281 at mile marker 102 near the curves just south of Great Bend. Upon arrival Sheriff’s deputies discovered a 2002 Buick Century that had left the roadway and struck a tree.

Investigation at the scene indicates the vehicle was southbound on U.S. 281 when it left the roadway and traveled approximately 430 feet before striking the tree. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Siebert, was injured in the collision. Siebert was transported to The University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus for treatment. Sheriff’s deputies are investigating what contributing factors may have caused the vehicle to exit the roadway. BCSO was assisted at the scene by Great Bend Fire and EMS units as well as the Kansas Highway Patrol.
