A traffic stop for an alleged equipment violation led to two arrests on drug charges on Saturday, Jan. 20, Sheriff Brian Bellendir reports.
A Barton County Sheriff’s Office deputy noticed an equipment violation on a Toyota Tacoma in about the 200 block of E. 10th St. in the city of Great Bend around 5 p.m. Saturday. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle but it continued to travel east out of town and turned north on NE 20 Ave. The vehicle finally stopped in the 200 block of NE 20 Ave.
Sheriff’s deputies identified the driver as Joshua Kelly, age 25 and a passenger as Dennis Streiner, age 48, both of Great Bend,” Bellendir stated in news release.
Sheriff’s Office K9 Maxx and his handler responded to the scene to assist the other deputies. Maxx indicated the presence of controlled substances in the vehicle. Further investigation revealed methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Both occupants were arrested at the scene and transported to the Barton County Jail without incident.
Streiner had two additional warrants from Great Bend Municipal Court. Both were booked on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Kelly posted a $10,000 bond and has since been released. As of Monday morning, Streiner remained in jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond plus an additional $1,656 on the Great Bend warrants.
