Kansas Highway Patrol

A Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Derek James Varner, 20, of Russell, was eastbound on Interstate 70 in Ellis County, 8.4 miles east of Hays, at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday and swerved to miss an animal in the roadway. The car went off the road and into the ditch, then struck a barbed wire fence. The driver was not injured, but passenger Krysal Ann Varner, 19, of Hays was taken to Hays Medical Center with undetermined injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.

Great Bend Fire Department

Firefighters made two ambulance runs on Tuesday. There were no fires.

 

Great Bend Police

Damage to a window on the business at 1618 10th St. was reported Tuesday. Loss was $250.

Vehicles driven by Dink Garner and Svitlana Nixon collided at 10th and Kansas at 2:47 p.m. Tuesday.

Someone broke the driver’s side window on a car at 2706 17th St., it was reported Tuesday. Loss was $350.

Nathan Towns was driving north on Harrison St. at 5:29 p.m. Tuesday and struck a vehicle driven by Martin Bieker, who was also northbound stopped in traffic.
