Kansas Highway Patrol reports that in a head-on collision Wednesday evening in Pawnee County, a Larned woman died and a man from New York was taken to Wesley Medical Center with what were believed to be serious injuries.

The crash occurred shortly after 8 p.m. on Oct. 18 on U.S. 56, 3 miles west of Garfield.

Tess V. Couch, 40, of Larned, was driving west in a 2019 Kia Optima when the vehicle crossed the center line. It collided with an eastbound 2017 Prius driven by Michael G. Patterson, 46, of Holley, New York. Both were wearing seat belts.

Couch was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to Beckwith Mortuary in Larned.
