Meth, handgun discovered during traffic stop

A traffic stop Tuesday night ended with the arrest of Garrett Sigmund, 18, for narcotics and weapons violations, according to a report from the Great Bend Police Department.

A GBPD officer stopped a green 1997 Ford F-150 pickup around 11:42 p.m. in the 1900 block of 10th St. for an alleged traffic violation. During the course of the traffic stop, GBPD K-9 Menta was deployed to do an exterior sniff of the truck. According to reports, Menta indicated a positive odor of narcotics. Upon completion of the sniff, officers searched the vehicle and located suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a handgun.

A passenger inside the vehicle identified as Sigmund was arrested and transported to the Barton County Jail where he was booked in lieu of bond.
