A motorcyclist was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Monday after colliding with a semi in Rice County.

Kansas Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred at 8:05 a.m. on U.S. 56, 0.2 miles west of 11th Road. The 1980 Suzuki motorcycle driven by Christopher Leo Detmer, 66, of Lyons, was westbound and the International semi driven by Gerald Todd Aguilera, 61, of Chase, was slowing or stopped to make a turn onto U.S. 56 westbound. The motorcycle struck the rear of the semi and Detmer was thrown from the motorcycle, landing in the north ditch. KHP reports he suffered what appeared to be serious injury. He was wearing a helmet.

Aguilera and a passenger in the semi had no apparent injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.
