GORHAM — A Victoria man was injured Thursday when the motorcycle he was driving hit a deer on Old 40 in Ellis County. Kansas Highway Patrol reports Kirk William Sauer, 52, was eastbound on a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle at 9:45 a.m. The crash occurred near 390th St., 2 miles west of Gorham.

After the bike struck the deer, Sauer came to rest in the roadway. He was not wearing a helmet. The deer and motorcycle came to rest in the ditch. Sauer was taken to Hays Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.
