An Oklahoma woman died and another woman was injured in a single-vehicle crash five miles west of Russell Wednesday morning.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 24-year-old Miyotzi A. Jemenez of Sperry, Okla., was traveling westbound on I-70 around mile marker 188.9, driving a Jeep sport utility vehicle. At around 11:10 a.m., Jemenez lost control on a wet, slushy roadway. The vehicle entered the median and rolled two complete times before coming to rest on its wheels in the eastbound lanes of I-70.
Jemenez suffered fatal injuries, and her passenger, 24-year-old Rosa Stacy Bernal of Haskell, Okla., was transported to Russell Regional Hospital with suspected minor injuries.
KHP reports Jemenez was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash; Bernal was properly restrained.
