Great Bend Police

At 1:29 p.m. Friday, a vehicle was reportedly stolen from 210 Fruit St.  It was recovered at Acme Scrap.

A known person allegedly stole $800 from the Presto store at 2337 Washington St., it was reported Friday.

A hit-and-run vehicle backed into a vehicle driven by Chris Fanatia in the 1900 block of 24th St. at 4:43 p.m. Friday.

A known person allegedly shoplifted items from The Buckle, 1313 Main, around 6 p.m. Friday.

A known person allegedly shoplifted items from the Dollar General Store, 1701 Main, on Friday evening. He was located and served a notice to appear in municipal court.

A hit-and-run vehicle struck a parked vehicle at 2920 10th St. Friday evening.

Theft of a tool box from 1423 Eighth St. was reported Saturday. Loss was $300.

Folding tables and chairs that were blocking southbound traffic at 11th and Main at 12:56 p.m. Saturday were removed.

Theft of a 1987 Ford Ranger from 701 Holland St. was reported at 1:36 p.m. Saturday. At 3:10 p.m. it was found parked in the roadway in the 400 block of Fruit St. and returned to the owner.

A vehicle driven by Joseph Larkin was eastbound in the 5300 block of 10th St. at 9:53 p.m. Saturday when he suffered medical problems. The vehicle left the roadway and struck farm equipment. Mr. Larkin was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital for his medical problems. He died at the hospital and his obituary appears in today’s paper.

Justin Q. Smokes of Tulsa, Okla., contacted police at 6:15 a.m. Sunday, saying a subject had tried to kidnap him at 19th and Odell. After investigating, police concluded the incident never occurred. Smokes was arrested and booked on charges of obstructing legal process and false reporting of a crime. He was released after posting a $1,000 surety bond.

Zoo Director Scott Gregory reported money missing out of the night deposit bag Sunday morning.

A window on a Mazda truck at 1017 Harding St. was broken, it was reported Sunday.

A burglary at 2721 19th St. was reported Sunday. Someone allegedly broke into the garage and stole tools.

A known person allegedly took a vehicle from her brother’s Great Bend residence without permission on Saturday. The owner reported the car stolen on Sunday, saying he thought it was in Hutchinson.

A vehicle hit a deer on U.S. 281 north of Great Bend, at 9:36 p.m. Sunday.

 

Great Bend Fire Department

Firefighters made two ambulance runs Friday, four Saturday and five Sunday.

They also responded to one "citizen assist" call on Friday and one "check welfare" call on Sunday. There were no fires.

 

Hoisington Fire Department

Robbie Kigar was driving on U.S. 281 south of Hoisington at 3:14 p.m. Sunday when his truck caught on fire.

 

Kansas Highway Patrol

Six people were taken to Ellsworth County Medical Center after a motor home went off Interstate 70 at 2:48 p.m. Sunday in Ellsworth County, approximately 3 miles northeast of Wilson. The 2005 Discovery driven by Vernon Eugene Harris, 36, of Sand Springs, Okla., went airborne after striking the median, where it landed on its wheels. While the driver and Leanna Susan Harris, a passenger in the front seat, and four children in the motor home cabin, ranging in age from 8 to 13 years, were taken to the hospital, not everyone was injured.

 

Barton County Sheriff

Two large chunks of metal were removed from the 200 block of South U.S. 281 at 2:40 p.m. Friday.

Theft of jewelry at the Barton County Fair was reported Friday night.

At 1:20 p.m. Saturday the Russell County Sheriff’s Office asked BCSO if it could locate a motorist in a Dodge Durango, who was suspected of flee and elude, reckless driving, speeding and leaving the scene of an accident. He was located and picked up by Russell County. The vehicle was impounded. Ellinwood Police Department, Kansas Highway Patrol and Golden Belt Humane Society also responded.
