Great Bend Fire Department
Firefighters made eight ambulance runs Wednesday and four Thursday.
At 3:36 p.m. Thursday they responded to Third and Chestnut for a vehicle fire. They found an older model Chevy van with smoke coming from the engine compartment. Chief Mike Napolitano said a passerby with an extinguisher had already knocked the biggest part of the fire down before firefighters arrived. Faulty equipment was ruled as the cause.
At 5:45 a.m. Friday there was a false alarm at St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgical Center after a steam line ruptured in the tunnel, activating the smoke alarms.

Great Bend Police
Someone got into a vehicle at 2208 29th St. and stole $3 worth of change, it was reported Thursday.
A vehicle driven by Norman Bodine was eastbound in the 2000 block of 10th making an improper lane change at 11:03 a.m. and struck a vehicle driven by Renae Miller, who was also eastbound.
Someone reportedly entered the residence at 1605 Morton St. and opened a dresser drawer.
A vehicle driven by Robert Christener was turning east onto 10th at 4:05 a.m. Friday and hit a stop sign.

Barton County Sheriff
Burglary and theft from a storage unit at 86 SW 10 Ave. was reported Thursday.
A Great Bend resident reported being the victim of a scam.
A known person allegedly stole something from 193 SE 1 Ave. before leaving the residence late Thursday.
