Great Bend Fire Department

Firefighters made seven ambulance runs on Thursday, six Friday, 12 Saturday and four Sunday.

At 7:37 a.m. Friday they responded to 201 Pine for an unauthorized burning in a barrel.

At 3:26 a.m. Saturday they responded to 1612 Holland for a carbon monoxide check, and at 7:15 p.m. they responded to 805 Morton for smoke in the house. The source was the oven.

At 2:05 p.m. Sunday they were dispatched to a structure fire at 900 Adams, and assisted by the Great Bend Police Department. They arrived to find smoke and flames showing from the northwest bedroom window. The fire was confined to the bedroom with smoke and heat damage throughout the house, causing an estimated $35,000 in damage. Chief Mike Napolitano said it was determined that the fire was unintentionally caused by misuse of a lighter.

A vehicle driven by Trevor Olson was eastbound on 19th St. at 7:26 a.m. Thursday and struck a vehicle driven by Dewayne Mick, who was also eastbound.

At 8:17 a.m., a woman reported being battered outside her home in the 1200 block of Eisenhower St.

A hit-and-run vehicle struck a car at 5815 Broadway Ave. Another hit-and-run was reported at 1649 K-96.

A suspected shoplifter at The Buckle was served a notice to appear in municipal court.

Theft of a bike from 1424 10th St. was reported Thursday evening.

On Friday a woman at Cedar Park Place reported someone calling and trying to use the "Grandmother Scam" on her. Someone on the phone wanted her to believe a relative was in jail and asked her to send money.

A vehicle driven by Robin Schneider was eastbound on Broadway at 3:45 p.m. Friday and rear-ended a vehicle driven by Jeremy Newsome, who was eastbound turning north at Morton St.

A burglary at 514 Cleveland St. was reported Friday. Someone entered the office and took items.

Someone slashed a tire on a pickup at 910 Madison St., it was reported Saturday.

A motorist in a dark van drove off from 2302 10th St. at 2:48 p.m. Saturday without pay for $51 worth of fuel.

A black Jeep damaged a mailbox at 1604 Holland St.

 

Barton County Sheriff

A vehicle hit a deer 2.5 miles east of Hoisington on Thursday morning.

Theft of copper wire from an abandoned house at SE 40 Road and SE 60 Ave. was reported Thursday.

Seth McBride was in a Honda Civic driving north on U.S. 281 at mile marker 209 (NE 50 Road) at 2:37 a.m. Saturday and hit a deer.

Phillip Hathcock was driving a Toyota pickup on SE 50 Road and SE 70 Ave. at 11:17 a.m. Sunday and hit a deer.
