Great Bend Fire/EMS

Firefighters responded to a hay bale fire at 9:29 a.m. Saturday at 397 SE 5 Road.

Emergency Medical Service responded to five calls Friday, seven Saturday, five Sunday and five Monday. EMTs were on standby at Friday’s football game and drag graces.

GBFD also participated in Hoisington’s “Touch a Truck” on Saturday.

There were two carbon monoxide checks on Friday.


Barton County Sheriff

A non-injury crash was reported at 11:44 a.m. Saturday at East Barton County Road and NE 140, Ellinwood.

A Kansas Highway Patrol Officer located a vehicle shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday at SE 130 Ave. and East U.S. 56, Ellinwood, after Great Bend Police Department issued an attempt to locate bulletin on it.

A vehicle fire was reported at 7:29 p.m. at 593 NW 10 Ave., Great Bend. The vehicle was not in motion at the time of the fire.

BCSO assisted an outside agency at 4:26 a.m. Sunday at South U.S. 281 and SE 20 Road. They were at that location for an animal complaint from 8-9:10 a.m.

A burglary was reported Sunday morning at Smokin Vape, 1807 Washington St., Great Bend.

A non-injury crash was reported at 11:32 a.m. Monday in the 200 block of SE 100 Ave., Ellinwood.

BCSO assisted an outside agency at 2:02 p.m. Monday at 924 NE 10 Ave., Hoisington.

A theft was reported at 25 NE 27 Ave., Great Bend.

BCSO assisted Ellinwood Police Department with a report of threats at Ellinwood Heights apartments.


Great Bend Police

A non-injury crash was reported at 9:28 a.m. Friday at Dillons, 4107 10th St.

A search warrant was executed at 10:22 a.m. at 1807 Washington St.

Someone broke out the rear window of a vehicle at 920 Walnut St.

A fight was reported at 2:11 p.m. Friday at Great Bend Middle School. A juvenile complaint was taken by the responding officer.

A theft was reported at Joe Farris Rentals, 1015 Wilson St.

An aggravated domestic battery was reported shortly before 10 p.m. Friday in the 2800 block of Gano St. The suspect was transported to KU Med - Great Bend with a possible seizure.

A non-injury crash was reported at 8:44 a.m. Saturday at 10th and McKinley.

Police received a report at 4:25 p.m. Saturday of a subject in the vicinity of the zoo with a gun. It turned out to be a paintball gun and the subject was advised to take it home.

Theft of a tire from a pickup was reported at 2423 Gano St.

After a burglary in progress was reported at 10:37 p.m. in the 1300 block of Baker Ave., police looked for a possible prowler and found nothing.

The K-9 unit was called to the 1500 block of Patton Road at 11:14 p.m. Saturday. Nothing was found.

A burglary reported Sunday morning at Smokin Vape, 1807 Washington St., was handled as a juvenile case.

The Lyons Police Department requested an outside agency assist Sunday morning.

On Monday morning, an officer arrested Antonio Rodriguez of Great Bend at Great Bend High School, 2027 Morton St. He had outstanding warrants for failure to appear in Douglas County, and other outstanding warrants in Jewell and Leavenworth counties. He was booked into the county jail with no bond set on the Leavenworth District Court warrant for burglary, theft and criminal damage. Bond on other charges totaled $6,500. 

A known person reportedly shoplifted items at Hibbert Sports, 3709 10th St.

Theft of a tire from a trailer was reported at 1000 Roxanne Dr.

A non-injury crash was reported at 3:17 p.m. Monday at 19th and Washington.

A vehicle that was reportedly stolen from 1306 Wilson St. on Aug. 27 was processed by an officer Monday afternoon. The vehicle was located in the county.

Theft of a blue Ford Escape bearing Kansas (handicapped tag) number 64799 was reported at 300 Frey St.

A non-injury crash was reported at 5:42 p.m. at Great Bend Ampride, 2302 10th St.

A theft was reported after an unknown male attempted to buy beer at 2:21 a.m. Tuesday at Casey’s General Store, 2716 10th St., but was advised it was too late to purchase beer. He reportedly threw money on the counter and ran out with the beer.

At 6:53 a.m. Tuesday, a subject in a mask was seen getting into a vehicle at 1020 Jackson St. and taking cash.
