Fatality accident in Edwards County
A fatal accident occurred at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 56, approximately two miles east of Kinsley. Kansas Highway Patrol reports an eastbound Peterbilt truck pulling a trailer, driven by Charles M. Kerth, 57, Salina, went off the highway, hitting a northbound Kenworth truck, also pulling a trailer, that was stopped at the stop sign on 110 Road. Kerth was pronounced dead at the scene. He had not been wearing a seat belt.
The Kenworth was driven by Danial R. Haynes, 50, Kinsley, who was taken to St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. The highway patrol could not tell whether Haynes was using a seat belt.

Great Bend Fire Department
Firefighters had four Emergency Medical Service calls on Tuesday. There were no fires. Training was done Tuesday and Wednesday at 1723 Morton St., in a house scheduled for demolition. Smoke seen coming from that structure was from the fire department’s smoke machine; there was no actual fire.

Barton County Sheriff
 A padlock on a City of Pawnee Rock water valve at 100 Santa Fe Ave. was stolen, it was reported Tuesday. This was also reported as alleged theft of services, as the water was turned back on at the meter.
A burglary in progress at 155 SE 20 Ave. was reported at 11:44 a.m. Tuesday.

Great Bend Police
An unknown female allegedly shoplifted pain relief medication from 1221 10th St. at 10:56 a.m. Tuesday.
A vehicle driven by Jill Wiebke was northbound on K-96 at 12:58 p.m. and struck a vehicle driven by Larry Weiser, who was westbound on 17th St.
A known woman allegedly stole $32.58 worth of groceries from 3503 10th St. at 5 p.m. She was served a notice to appear in municipal court.
