Great Bend Fire/EMS
Firefighters made six ambulance runs Monday and three Tuesday.
At 12:36 p.m. Tuesday they were dispatched to Second St. and Chisholm Trail, where a caller had reported a possible structure fire. They found heavy white smoke coming from the chimney that made it appear there was a fire.
At 6:48 p.m. Tuesday they responded to a car fire in the 200 block of Patton Road. They found a white Chevy van that had overheated, but there was no fire.

Great Bend Police
A burglary was reported Tuesday at 903 8th St. Someone entered the residence and took items.
A hit-and-run vehicle struck a parked vehicle in the 1200 block of Garfield St.
At 7:39 p.m. Tuesday, a man reported that a known female and an unknown male showed a handgun after threatening to cause him harm, in the 1700 block of Second St. An aggravated assault case was taken and police issue an Attempt To Locate (ATL) bulletin on the female.
Rush County law enforcement reported recovering a stolen vehicle from Great Bend; Brian Franklin, Great Bend, was booked at the Barton County Jail on a charge of theft, and was released after he posted a $5,000 surety bond.
Theft from the Kwik Shop, 2334 Main, was reported.

Barton County Sheriff
A one-vehicle, non-injury accident on NW 150 Road and NW 20 Ave. was reported at 4:27 p.m. Tuesday.
At 6:02 p.m., a caller advised his son had hit a deer on North U.S. 281 and NW 70 Road.

Kansas Highway Patrol
A Fort Riley man died Monday in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 70, approximately 9 miles northwest of Ellsworth. The accident occurred at 12:26 p.m. when a westbound Pontiac G6 driven by Calvin J. Michalak, 22, went into the median for unknown reasons and struck the concrete bridge pillars. He was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin was notified by a military chaplain.
