Great Bend Fire Department
Firefighters made 12 Emergency Medical Service runs on Wednesday. There were no fires.

Other fires
A controlled burn in the 2000 block of NE 30 Ave. got out of control Wednesday afternoon and burned down an old barn. Firefighters were asked to make sure the fire did not spread to a farmhouse at in the 200 block of NE 200 Road.

Kansas Highway Patrol
A motorist was injured Thursday morning when he fell asleep on Interstate 70 at 9:35 a.m. and ran into the back of a semitrailer in Ellsworth County. Gavin M. Blaylock, 19, of Loveland, Colo., and his passenger, Matthew R. Roche, 20, of Caseyville, Ill., were taken to the Ellsworth County hospital. The semi driver was not injured.

Barton County Sheriff
A vehicle hit a deer on NE 100 Ave. and NE  80 Road at 7:12 a.m. Wednesday.
Signs at NE 30 Road and NE 60 Ave. were stolen, it was discovered Wednesday.
A burglary at 5602 Railroad Ave. was reported. Someone entered through the garage sometime after 1 p.m. Wednesday. Jewelry was stolen.
A vehicle hit a deer on K-156 and 100 Ave. at 7:04 p.m. Wednesday.
A vehicle hit a deer at 900 NE 100 Ave. at 7:13 a.m. Thursday.

Great Bend Police
Theft of checks from a residence at 1716 Third St. was reported Wednesday. Checks had been written around town.
