Great Bend Fire Department
Where there’s smoke there isn’t always fire, as recent calls to the Great Bend Fire Department show.
There was a false alarm at 10:39 a.m. Friday, when someone saw a lot of smoke from a building on Patton Road. “It was just a smoke scare,” Firefighter Brad Deschner said. “A wood-burning stove had just been lit and it caused a lot of smoke – no fire.”
On Saturday an overheated humidifier at  717 Coolidge St. caused a lot of smoke, which had to be cleared from the home, but nor fire was found.
There was also a call at 6:19 a.m. Monday about a smoke smell at 1104 Eisenhower Ave., but no fire was found and there was no odor of smoke in the home.
Firefighters had 10 Emergency Medical Service calls on Friday, five Saturday and three Sunday.

Great Bend Police
Theft of items from a vehicle at 1015 Baker Ave. was reported Friday.
A forgery case was taken after a Great Bend resident reported someone writing checks on her account.
A vehicle driven by Tony Ayala was backing in the 1300 block of Main at 1:21 p.m. Saturday and struck a vehicle driven by Kayla Peterson, that was stopped in traffic.
A hit-and-run vehicle backed into a vehicle at 2716 10th St., it was reported Sunday.
