Great Bend Fire/EMS

Firefighters were dispatched to a controlled burn that got out of control at 12:44 p.m. Thursday in the 1500 block of U.S. 281 Bypass. A tree behind Abbey’s Best Buy Carpet Outlet was on fire.

Around 12:46 p.m., firefighters checked an electric smell at Verizon Wireless, 3120 10th St.

A structure fire was also reported at 1:34 a.m. Friday at 815 Hubbard St.

Emergency Medical Service responded to eight calls Thursday.


Barton County Sheriff

A vehicle hit a deer at 2:30 a.m. Thursday at Kansas Brick and Tile, 767 North U.S. 281, rural Hoisington.

A non-injury crash was reported at 6:05 a.m. at East K-4 and mile marker 130.

A non-injury crash was reported at 11:25 a.m. at Barton Community College, 245 NE 30 Road.

An injury crash was reported at 3:07 p.m. at 281 Auto Salvage, 561 North U.S. 281, Great Bend.

A non-injury crash was reported at 4:11 p.m. at NE K-156 and North Charles, rural Holyrood.


Great Bend Police

A burglary was reported Thursday at Wells Seamless Guttering, 1305 Lincoln Ave. Items were stolen from a vehicle overnight.

A theft was reported at Love’s Country Store, 1221 10th St.

An injury crash was reported at 12:09 p.m. at Lakin and Morton.

A Social Security card was found at the Great Bend Street Department, 525 Morton St. It was booked into evidence.

A theft was reported at 1614 1/2 Lakin Ave.

A non-injury crash was reported at 6:18 a.m. Friday at Walnut Plaza Apartments, 2611 27th St.

A non-injury crash was reported at 7:55 a.m. at Presto-Circle K (Kangaroo Express), 2337 Washington.
