Great Bend Fire/EMS

Firefighters made five Emergency Medical Service calls on Friday, six Saturday and two Sunday.

There was one chemical spill at 9:24 p.m. Saturday at Gressel Oilfield Service, 714 Patton Road. According to a GBFD “trip sheet,” a tank had vapors coming from it but was not a hazard to the area at the time. The owner was contacted and arrived on scene. The tank was leaking and the decision was made to pump the product off to a transport vehicle.

A report of smoke beside a building in the 1500 block of Morton Street on Friday evening was due to a barbecue grill.


Great Bend Police

Theft of a vehicle from Great Bend Housing Authority, 1101 Kansas Ave., was reported at 12:10 a.m. Friday after a man said his son took his vehicle and did not bring it back to him.

Theft of a dark blue Saturn with a Kansas disabled tag was reported Friday afternoon at the police department. Loss was $2,500. The car was located at 9:45 a.m. Saturday in the 2000 block of 11th St. and was released to the owner.

An injury crash was reported at 8:08 a.m. Friday at the Salvation Army Family Store, 2545 10th St. The Barton County Sheriff’s Office also responded.

An individual reported possible fraud; he notified police he had changed his phone number due to someone using his old number.

Theft was reported at 1033 1/2 Adams St.

An injury crash was reported at 5:16 p.m. at 2518 11th St.

Multiple theft cases were reported Friday at Wal-Mart. One was a reported theft of ammunition.

A hit-and-run crash was reported at 12th and Jefferson.

A non-injury crash was reported at 8:47 p.m. at 24th St. and K-96.

A drug arrest was made at 12:08 a.m. Saturday at 20th St. and Jackson Ave. Charles Bowers was booked into the Barton County Jail on charges of possession of meth, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and for littering and operating a bicycle with no lights. Bond was set at $10,000.

Police were dispatched to Charlie’s Place, 1109 Main St., at 2:06 a.m. Saturday for reports of a fight and shots fired. Joseph Givens, 26, was arrested on a charge of unlawful discharge of a firearm. He was released after posting a $1,000 surety bond.

Theft was reported Saturday at Lakin Ave. and Morton St.

A vehicle driven by Shawn Spike was westbound on Ninth St. at 11 a.m. Saturday and struck a vehicle driven by Cesar Antillon, who was also westbound but stopped for traffic at Washington St.

A report of two pit bulls at large in the 2300 block of McCormick St. was made at 11:25 a.m. Saturday. The humane society responded.

A burglary in progress was reported at 10 p.m. Saturday at 2722 19th St.; property was found and a case was made. The Barton County Sheriff’s Office also responded.

After police responded to a domestic call at 10:08 p.m. Saturday, Abraham Ramos was arrested and booked at the county jail and booked at the Barton County Sheriff’s Office.

A gas skip was reported at 12:18 p.m. Sunday at Dillons No. 51, 4107 10th St.

Someone damaged the tires on a vehicle at 2211 Van Buren St.

A sex offense involving a juvenile was reported.

A non-injury crash was reported at 8:56 p.m. Friday at 24th St. and K-96. Officers were on-scene until 9:42 p.m.

A non-injury crash was reported at 9:59 p.m. Friday at 190 Road and North U.S. 281.

A non-injury crash was reported at 10:57 p.m. Friday at 190 Road and North U.S. 281.

Criminal damage to property was reported Saturday at Ave. I and 1st Road, outside of Barton County.

An injury crash was reported at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at NE 10 Ave. and NE 20 Road.

A non-injury crash was reported at 3:45 a.m. Sunday at NE 120 Ave. and East U.S. 56.

A theft was reported at Cheyenne Bottoms, 204 NE 60 Road.

An assault was reported at 6:35 p.m. Sunday at 612 Windmill Lane, Great Bend.
