Rural Olmitz woman arrested on battery, arson charges

Barton County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a rural Olmitz woman late Monday night while responding to a report of an arson and battery near Olmitz.

According to Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir, at about 11 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to a residence in northwest Barton County near Olmitz, investigating a report of an aggravated arson, as well as a domestic battery case. Upon arrival, deputies obtained information that the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Dietre Stevenson of rural Olmitz, had become involved in a domestic battery situation with another family member. At some point during the incident, Stevenson allegedly brandished a handgun, threatening to kill the victim. It was later determined Stevenson had poured a flammable liquid on the residence and set the occupied house on fire.

Stevenson was arrested and booked into the Barton County Jail on requested charges of aggravated arson, aggravated assault and aggravated domestic battery. She is being held in lieu of a $75,000 bond.
