Traffic stop search leads to drug arrest Tuesday

Great Bend police arrested Elijah Cheney, 22, on multiple drug possession charges after officers detected suspected narcotics during a traffic stop Tuesday night.

According to the GBPD, at approximately 10:28 p.m. Tuesday, a GBPD officer conducted a traffic stop at 10th and Wilson streets for an equipment violation on a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. 

During the stop, GBPD K-9 service dog Menta was deployed and conducted a free air sniff around the exterior of the vehicle, and indicated to the presence of illegal narcotics. Officers then conducted a search of the vehicle, and located controlled substances including marijuana, cocaine and drug paraphernalia.  

Cheney was arrested and transported to the Barton County Jail and held on a $10,000 bond on charges of possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, no drug tax stamp, and an equipment violation.  He was released Wednesday after posting bond.
