PAWNEE COUNTY — Suitcases containing more than 50 pounds of marijuana were seized and two persons arrested as the result of a traffic stop conducted by Pawnee County Sheriff’s department late Thursday evening in the county.
According to information posted on the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Facebook page, a patrolling PCSO deputy conducted a traffic stop at approximately 11:13 p.m. on U.S. 56 in Pawnee County on a vehicle for a traffic infraction. During the course of the stop, Pawnee County K-9 Noa was deployed and indicated to the odor of narcotics within the vehicle.
During the search that followed, two suitcases containing more than 50 pounds of marijuana divided into 47 vacuum-sealed bags were found.
The driver and passenger were arrested on charges of speeding, conspiracy to distribute marijuana, possession of THC, possession of drug paraphernalia and no drug tax stamp.
Names and other identifying information are being withheld pending the individuals’ first appearances in Pawnee County District Court, following the extended New Year weekend holiday.
The Barton County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance with the search and arrest.
