A Great Bend woman and the passenger in a vehicle she was driving died Friday after a construction truck crossed the median and collided with her vehicle in Wabaunsee County. A 7-year-old boy sustained what appeared to be serious injuries, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at 3:47 p.m. on June 5 on Interstate 70, 12 miles west of Spring Creek Road.
Jason Webb, 45, from Cheboygan, Michigan, was driving an eastbound Kenworth truck when, for unknown reason, it crossed the center median and went into the westbound lanes of traffic. It struck the 2020 Buick Envision driven by Barbara Krier, 70, of Great Bend, which was westbound in the right lane of traffic.
Webb was taken to Stormont Vail Health Center in Topeka with what appeared to be minor injuries.
Krier and her adult passenger, Steven Reed, 50, of Topeka, were pronounced dead at the scene. Seven-year-old Chalel Delano, Topeka, was transported to Children’s Mercy Main in Kansas City, Missouri.
