In todays most obvious news, composer John Williams confirmed to Variety that he will score the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX.
I would very much like to complete that, he said.
Williams will also provide the theme for Solo, the next stand-alone Star Wars film that will be released in May. The films main composer, John Powell, will work to use Williams theme in the new film's score, according to Variety.
Williams previously worked on The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, in addition to the large body of work he created on the original and prequel Star Wars trilogies.
Williams said he likes incorporating the new Star Wars songs with old ones.
When we see Rey, we want to hear Reys theme, he said about new Star Wars heroine. And when the Force is referred to or felt, we want to hear the Force theme, and so on. We hope that these references make sense to the fans and make the aural connections that we want them to have.
Despite Williams' long affiliation with the Star Wars saga, Powell took over scoring duties for Solo and composer Michael Giacchino handled the score for Rogue One in 2016.
Episode IX will hit theaters Dec. 20, 2019.
We dont know much else about Episode IX. Fans speculated on the movies title after learning that the seventh Star Wars saga film would be called The Last Jedi.
Controversy sprung up behind the scenes, though.
Disney fired the films original director, Colin Trevorrow, who reportedly clashed with producer Kathleen Kennedy, an executive at Lucasfilm, the Deseret News reported. Disney then hired J.J. Abrams, who directed The Force Awakens, to return for Episode IX.
Rian Johnson, the director of the The Last Jedi, denied he wanted to come back for the ninth film. He did, however, get the opportunity to direct his own Star Wars trilogy. Details about the new trilogy are sparse, but it will reportedly chronicle new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored, according to The Verge.
