Theres a new live-action version of The Little Mermaid coming to theaters, and its not made by Disney.
It does, however, mark the big screen debut of one of Deseret News' readers favorite UTubers, 4-year-old Claire Crosby.
According to MovieWeb, the new The Little Mermaid film comes from Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and tells the story of a young reporter (William Mosely) who travels with his young sister (Loreto Peralta) to a small town where a Little Mermaid is rumored to live.
Upon reaching the town, the brother and sister soon realize that yes, mermaids are real. And that theyre under attack from a carnival leader, MovieWeb reported.
Claire Crosby, who was recently featured multiple times on "Ellen" and became a viral sensation from her YouTube videos in which she sings Disney songs, will play a young girl named Rose in the film, according to IMDB.

Production studies include both Conglomerate Media and Kingsway Productions. Universal Studios planned a separate The Little Mermaid film, with Chloe Moretz as the star, but the project went AWOL when Moretz dropped out.
So far, the new trailer has received mixed reviews. Harpers Bazaar called it breathtaking, while Gizmodo said you will not believe how bad the live-action Little Mermaid looks.
MovieWeb suspects it could find an audience if it hits theaters at the right time.
While this certainly is a unique take on this beloved fairy tale, it could find an audience in theaters. It is already a competitive summer movie season as it stands right now. Still, with a story fans are already well aware of with an impressive and diverse cast, it's certainly possible that this could find a niche at the summer box office, according to MovieWeb.
