THE ICY WILD Choose any lake in Scandinavia in the dead of winter and dollars to donuts that lake is frozen solid enough for 3,000 continuous games* of neighborhood hockey.

While most Swedes can see the difference between frozen water and solid ground, that may not be the case for wildlife in the same area.

That may be why one particular moose found itself in an icy predicament in Sweden earlier this week when it fell through ice, several feet from shore. Unfortunately for this long-legged creature, it wasnt able to fight its way back to land on its own. Fortunately for the poor creature, a group of people found the moose before it lost its struggle with the elements.

In the rescue video, a woman on skates approaches the moose and attempts to chop a path with a hand ax into the shallower part of the lake, so the moose can more easily wade to shore. (After all, trying to pull a 500 to 1,500 pound animal from a lake probably wasnt a viable option.)

With compassion for their fellow creature, a little will and a lot of elbow grease, the seemingly small group of people is able to chop a path, then prod the moose toward a safer place. Even though you didnt personally help with the rescue, its probably the most satisfying 2-minute video youll see all day.

Godspeed, newly freed moose...Godspeed.
