Kelloggs will replace its current Corn Pops cereal boxes after the company received a complaint of a racially insensitive image on its boxes.
The company said on Wednesday that its boxes, which showed a chaotic scene of little yellow-colored corn pop characters frolicking through a shopping mall on the boxs cover, will be replaced, according to The Washington Post.
The corn pop characters were shown shopping, skateboarding and playing in an arcade, among other activities.
Marvel Comics writer Saladin Ahmed pointed out that the lone dark-skinned corn pop was doing janitorial work.
Kelloggs responded to Ahmed with an announcement of its planned changes.
As The Huffington Post reported, social media users celebrated Kelloggs for the rapid response and decision to change the box.
Spokesman Kris Charles told USA Today that the company celebrates diversity and never meant to offend anyone.
"We take feedback very seriously, and it was never our intention to offend anyone," he said in a statement. "We apologize sincerely."
Earlier this month, Dove fell under fire for an ad that some deemed as racially insensitive, according to the Deseret News.
The clip showed black women undressing themselves to reveal white women. The ad went viral when an image of the women side-by-side was shared on social media.
"This did not represent the diversity of real beauty which is something Dove is passionate about and is core to our beliefs, and it should not have happened," Dove said in a statement at the time. "We apologize deeply and sincerely for the offense that it has caused and do not condone any activity or imagery that insults any audience."
