King Willem-Alexander may really be the flying Dutchman.

Willem-Alexander, who is the reigning monarch of the Netherlands, told the Dutch Newspaper De Telegraaf this week that he often flies planes for the KLM, a commercial airline carrier in his home country, CNN reported.

Willem-Alexander described the part-time job as a hobby, adding that hes flown such planes as the KLM Cityhopper for more than 20 years, CNN reported.

He said he often takes up the co-pilot seat for short flights around Europe.

But, according to CNN, Alexander said hes training to fly Boeing 737s.

"For me the most important thing is that I have a hobby for which I need to concentrate completely," he said. "You have an aircraft, passengers and crew. You have responsibility for them. You can't take your problems from the ground into the skies. You can completely disengage and concentrate on something else. That, for me, is the most relaxing part of flying.
