First, let me take a selfie.

If youre tired of hearing these words, you probably live in one of the top 10 cities in America known for selfie-taking.

A recent survey conducted by social network ON.com analyzed the number of selfies taken each week by a single user. After looking at more than 500,000 selfies taken by users in a states capital city, researchers found that the following cities take the most selfies per week:

  1. Santa Fe, New Mexico 6.94 selfies per user
  2. Topeka, Kansas 5.83 selfies per user
  3. Springfield, Illinois 5.65 selfies per user
  4. Jackson, Mississippi 5.63 selfies per user
  5. Lansing, Michigan 5.61 selfies per user
  6. Cheyenne, Wyoming 5.46 selfies per user
  7. Denver, Colorado 5.34 selfies per user
  8. Salem, Oregon 5.13 selfies per user
  9. Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 5.05 selfies per user
  10. Annapolis, Maryland 4.88 selfies per user
Researchers were surprised to find that neither Sacramento, California, nor Albany, New York, cracked the top 10.

For obvious reasons, our team believed that cities in New York and California would lead the way in most selfies taken, ON.coms Kevin Deegan told Tech Times. But after we pulled the data, we realized that simply wasnt the case. We can now see that the recent selfie takeover has accrued in every corner of the country.

Most Americans can probably remember a time when the word selfie wasnt even used. However, the act of capturing your digital image with your smartphone has become such a big part of the American lifestyle that the term selfie, was deemed word of the year by the Oxford English Dictionary in November 2013.

Selfies are a big part of our culture now. People have become more and more accustomed to taking pictures of their daily lives, to share with others or just to remember specific moments themselves, said Deegan. I think this says that we take value in knowing and relating to what everyone else is doing.
