Josephine "Adella" Howard 1935 - 2019
Josephine “Adella” Howard, 84, passed away at Brookdale Senior Living in Great Bend, Kan., on Dec. 22, 2019. Born on Jan. 3, 1935, in Kinsley, Kan., she was the daughter of William and Lura (Hudson) Cowgill. In her early years, they moved from Kinsley to Larned, where they operated a grocery store and cabin camp, and when she was grade school age, they moved to property north of Sylvia which Adella’s grandfather homesteaded. After Adella’s graduation from Sylvia High School, she worked at Central State Bank in Hutchinson as secretary to the president. With her marriage in 1956 to her beloved husband, she began her 58 year career of working alongside Keith on the family farm and raising their four children. Adella was best known for her servant heart, her ability to cook and her love of playing games with family and friends. As her health declined, she and Keith moved to Ellinwood in 2017 and to Great Bend in 2019. Adella was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson.
Survivors include husband, Keith Howard; children, Michel (Rhett) Jahelka, Little Mountain, S.C.; Melanie (Bryan) Mosier, Ellinwood, Kan.; Lindy (Jaime) Howard, Alden, Kan.; Shane (Crissy) Howard, Highland Village, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
