Pawnee Rock — Aletha Fern Loving, 97, passed away September 20, 2018 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.
She was born in Great Bend to Harry and Adeline Unruh, on June 18, 1921. Aletha lived most of her entire life on the family farm at Pawnee Rock, Kansas. As a young person, she was an accomplished musician on the French horn and piano. She graduated from Pawnee Rock High School in 1938. She took that passion for music to Fort Hays State College. She graduated from Fort Hays State Teachers College in 1943 and began teaching at Holyrood and then Pawnee Rock Schools.
On July 18, 1947 she married H. Jack Loving and he passed away June 22, 1986. They farmed with her father. She quit teaching to become a farm wife and mother, but years later she returned to teaching in one room schoolhouses in Gem School and Shady Grove; then taught at Garfield, Radium and Pawnee Rock.
She was a member of the New Jerusalem Church, Sigma Alpha lota music sorority, Ladies Service Alliance and 20th Century Club.
Aletha is survived by her four children; Lola Todd, Tulsa, OK, Marty (Karen) Loving, Pawnee Rock, Patti Loving and Mike Bingham, Maize and Anita (Randy) Wilson, Larned; nine grandchildren; Tiffany (Daniel) Cutting, Scott (Mandy) Loving, Matthew (Sara) Loving, Kristin (Nick) Mizner, Jenny Wilson, Zachary (Jessica) Wilson, Angela (David) Keith, Beth (Glenn) Schroeder and Paula (Eddie) Flores and two great grandchildren; Tenley Loving and Elliott Loving.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Jane Siebert presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Pawnee Rock Cemetery, Pawnee Rock, Ks.
