PECULIAR, Mo. — Alvin “Al” Adam Gerstner, 91, Peculiar, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo.
Al was born June 29, 1926 in St. Peter’s, KS, the son of Michael and Magdalene (Billinger) Gerstner. He married Virginia “Ginny” Crowdes on May 8, 1947 in Kit Carson, Colo. Al had lived in Cheyenne Wells, Colo. before moving to Auburn, Neb. in 1952. He lived in Great Bend for 19 years and in Omaha, Neb. for 19 years before moving to Peculiar in 2002.
Al had worked in sales, selling agriculture buildings and barn structures. He was a very proud WWII U.S. Army veteran. Al was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville, VFW, DAV, American Legion in Belton and the Eagle Lodge #38 in Omaha, Neb.
Al was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David Michael. He is survived by his wife, Ginny, of the home; three sons, Mark Gerstner, Peculiar, Mo.; Dennis Gerstner, Wichita; and Joe Gerstner, Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Diana Deal (Terry), Gravois Mills, Mo.; three brothers, Rudy Gerstner (Kathy), Yankton, S.D.; Ed Gerstner (Carlyne), Lenexa; and Michael Gerstner (Jill), Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Barbara Swinford, Rockford, Ill.; and Andrea Gerstner, Dallas, Texas; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville with burial at 1:30 p.m. in Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth. Visitation was held Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with Rosary at 5.
Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV.org), American Cancer Society or the Kansas City Hospice House.
