Alyce Chambers 1945 - 2016

HOISINGTON — Alyce Chambers, 70, died April 3, 2016, at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born June 24, 1945 in Hoisington, she was the daughter of Harlan “H.D.” and Velma (Beck) McMillin. On Aug. 30, 1964, she married Michael Chambers in Hoisington. He survives. A long time Hoisington resident, she also lived six years in Chicago, Ill., moving back to Hoisington in 1974. She was a para for USD 431 for many years, working at Roosevelt, Lincoln, and Hoisington Middle School. From 2008 -2013, she assisted her husband in managing the Club House at Lake Barton Golf Club.
Mrs. Chambers was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was involved in many committees, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, both of Hoisington. She was also involved in Rainbows during her High School years, and later played an integral part in the development of Kans for Kids.
Survivors include her husband, Mike Chambers, of the home; one son, Tony Chambers, of Hoisington; one daughter, Staci Wren, of Hoisington; one sister, Arlene Lewis, of Viola; a granddaughter, Jayden Wren, of Scott City; a brother-in-law, Mike Aylward, of Hoisington; and a sister-in-law, Crista McMillin, of Wichita. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Katherine Kaylene “Katy”; brother, Edward McMillin; sister, Jany Aylward; and by a brother-in-law, Marvin Lewis.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Hoisington with the Rev. Reuben L’angat officiating. Inurnment will be at the Hoisington Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Kans for Kids to benefit Jany Aylward Scholarship Fund, in care of the funeral home.
