Ambrose Wendel 1917-2012

ELLINWOOD—Ambrose Wendel, 95, died August 6 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center.  Born Feb. 6, 1917 at rural Ellinwood, he was the son of Frank and Magdeline Wendel (Breitenbach).  
Wendel was a lifetime Barton County resident, formerly of Ellinwood.  ON May 13, 1946 he married Cynthia A. Hoffman at Hoisington.  She died on March 6, 1998.  He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ellinwood.
Survivors include two sons, Marvin Wendel and wife Del of Yukon, Okla. and George Wendel and wife Susie of Great Bend, and five grandchildren and eigh great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Leo and Ed, and six sisters, Alvera, Anna, Helen, Irene, Magdeline and Rose.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ellinwood, with Father Charles Mazouch officiating.  Visitors may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8 with family receiving friends from 5:30 p.m to 7 p.m. at Kimple Funeral Home, Ellinwood. An Altar Society Rosary is planned for 3 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7 p.m., both on Wednesday at Kimple Funeral Home.  Burial be at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood.  Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Church or to Hospice of Kansas.
