ELLINWOOD — Andrew L. Detmer, 88, died March 12 at Ellinwood District Hospital. Born Nov. 19, 1923, in Waterloo, he was the son of August Detmer and Anna Rohling Detmer. On Sept. 25, 1951, he married Marjorie M. Ziegler in Willowdale. She died on Sept. 14, 2011. A resident of Ellinwood for 39 years, formerly of Great Bend, Turon, Wichita and Willowdale, he was the owner of Electronic Center of Ellinwood for 35 years, and former owner of Andy’s TV and Appliance in Great Bend.
Mr. Detmer was a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Lions Club, all of Ellinwood and Great Bend Flying Club.
Survivors include three daughters Vicki (Dan) Haselhorst of Great Bend, Debbie (Ken Debes) of Hays and Linda (Mark Ille) of Ellinwood; two brothers, John Detmer of Great Bend and Lawrence Detmer of Pratt; three sisters, Agnes Urban of Wichita, Rita Goertz of Willowdale, and Mary Lou Osner of Cunningham; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leonard, Leo, and Martin Detmer; and two sisters, Christine Miller and Isadore Fischer.
Rosary services will be held at 3 p.m. followed by a Vigil service at 7 p.m. followed by Knights of Columbus Rosary, on Thursday, all at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood with Father Charles Mazouch officiating. Burial will be at the Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may visit from 1 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Ellinwood Lions Club Sight, St. Joseph School Endowment or the Ellinwood Area Health Care Foundation.
