Angela (Angie) Rayla (née) Lemuz

Angela (Angie) Rayla (née Lemuz), 93, Great Bend, Kan. passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023 at Edencrest in Des Moines Iowa. Angie was born July 10, 1929, in Albert, Kan., the eldest daughter of Cirilo and Josefa (Marquez) Lemuz. She was a lifelong area resident. She worked at CMKC and the Great Bend Manor before retiring.  She continued working as a home health caretaker well into her 80s.

She was adventurous and courageous, she took a vacation to California and on a whim, decided to apply for a job at the hospital in the Bay area. She was hired on the spot and spent several years in the Bay area. Angie enjoyed traveling, Pepsi with cinnamon red hots and peanuts, Braum’s ice cream, chocolate and talking to strangers. She loved weeping willow trees, rain, chickadees singing, Hank Williams, and classic country music. Most of all, she loved spending time with her large, amazing family. 

Angie is survived by three daughters, Brenda Rayla, Kansas City, Mo., Roxie Rayla, Urbandale, Iowa, Jackie (Daniel Frost) Fletcher, Great Bend, Kan.; three grandchildren Sheldon Fletcher, Great Bend, Kan., Ashley (Thomas) Hoffee, Maize, Kan., Cody (Victoria) Kenyon, Des Moines, Iowa; two great-grandchildren; brothers Tony (Linda) Lemuz, Larned, Kan., Robert Lemuz, Rozel, Kan., and Isaac (Sherry) Lemuz, Larned, Kan.; sisters, Louise Pierce, Helen Asher, both of Great Bend, Kan. Angie was preceded in death by her former husband Joseph Rayla; parents; brothers, Lawrence (Topeka), Andrew, Luis, Luciano, Jesse, Steve, and Frankie all from the Larned area; sisters, Ramona Palleschi, Winthrop Maine, and Baldomera (Mary), Great Bend, Kan.  

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association. There will be a memorial Celebration of life planned for the near future.
