LARNED — Ann Louise Gatterman, 65, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 21, 2020 at her home in Larned.
She was born Feb. 23, 1955 in Larned; the daughter of Stanley and Geraldine (Hogan) Young.
She graduated from Kinsley High School in 1973, and Hutchinson Junior College in 1975, where she was a member and Captain of the Dragon Dolls dance team. In 1977, she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics and Education from Kansas State University. She later obtained a Masters of Science degree from Friends University.
Ann married Bruce Gatterman on Aug. 5, 1978 in Kinsley, and they resided in Larned their entire married life. She was a longstanding member of her bridge club and Larned Ladies Golf. Ann was a volunteer for the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Auxiliary, and a founding member of the “Friday Night Fright Club.” She was a proud member of the Bronze National Leadership Circle of the Kansas State University Ahearn Fund.
Ann taught in the Fort Larned school district for 37 years, retiring in 2015, but continued to substitute teach up to the time of her death. She treasured her years spent in teaching and enjoyed watching former students progress through life.
She is survived by her husband; daughter, Lindsay (Mitch) Walter, Wichita; son, Anthony “Tony” (Misha) Gatterman, Denver; four grandsons, Cal, Davis, and Archie Walter, and Beau Gatterman; sister, Susan Young, Bonner Springs; her “second mother” Norma Gatterman, Larned; nieces, Tessa (Eric) Schwarz, Melissa Bennett (Jon), Christina Gatterman, and a nephew Travis Young. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Larry Young.
Her best times were with her husband, family and friends, going to events of her children and grandchildren, cooking, KSU football and basketball games, walking her 4-legged friend Sunny, and refereeing backyard squirrel hunting.
Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Larned United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Stapleton and Pastor Tricia North presiding. Service will be viewable via Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/beckwithmortuary. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary with family present from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Cremation will follow the service and a private family inurnment will be at a later date.
