LA CROSSE — Anna M. Schenk, 92, La Crosse, Kan., died Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, Kan.
Miss Schenk was born June 17, 1925, in rural Barton County, Kan., the daughter of John F. and Lucy (Kittel) Schenk. She was a resident of La Crosse, Kan., for over 30 years, moving from rural Olmitz, Kan. Anna was born in a rock house on a farm in the rural Olmitz, Kan. area. She lived there 60 years working hard as a farmer, raising chickens, pigs, calves, and hand milked cows. She also cooked for two siblings without benefit of any electricity or running water. She retired to La Crosse, Kan., in her early 60’s.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kan.. She was a Senior Companion for many years at Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care, and the Rush County Nursing Home. Anna enjoyed baking and gardening.
Survivors include, four nephews, Pat Riedl (Linda), Seattle, Wash., Joe Riedl (Martha), Leon, Kan., Tom Riedl (Roberta), Webster, Mass., and Dan Riedl (Cathy), Andover, Kan.; and one niece, Kathy Bryant (Bruce), Rio Rancho, N.M. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Herman Schenk; and two sisters, Minnie Schenk, and Theresa Riedl.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kan. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kan., with Father Eric Gyamfi officiating. Interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kan. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are suggested to Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse, Kan.
