Arlene Helen Miles, 100, died Nov. 6, 2015, at Life Care Center in Farmington, N.M. Born Jan. 13, 1915, in Breese, Ill., she was the daughter of Carl and Stella Gerfen. Arlene graduated from high school in Carlyle, Ill., and from a business college in St. Louis, Mo. On Apr. 26, 1943, she married Hugh S. Miles. The couple lived in Norfolk, Va., Olney, Ill., Ardmore, Okla., and from 1968 to 2003, in Great Bend. In 2003, she moved to Farmington to be with family. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family, and had a passion for gardening.
Mrs. Miles was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Golden Belt Country Club, PEO, Community Concert, Progress Club, Bloomer Girls, and several Bridge clubs.
Survivors include one son, Robert H. Miles (Joyce), of Guymon, Okla.; two daughters, Janis M. Cross (Steve), of Canon City, Colo. and Jeanne G. Shaheen (Jim) of Farmington, N.M.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh on Sept. 14, 2001, one sister, four brothers, and one grandson.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 28, at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Dr. Scott V. Solether officiating. Inurnment will be in Great Bend Cemetery.
