DODGE CITY – Arlie “Walt” Redburn, 89, died June 19 at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Halsey Hall, Ft. Dodge. He was born April 21, 1925, at El Dorado, the son of Arlie M. and Mertie D. Wilcox Redburn. A Dodge City resident since the late 1940s, moving from El Dorado, he was a mechanic for John Stickney Inc. for 30 years and a maintenance supervisor at Arrowhead West in Dodge City for 10 years, retiring July 16, 1993.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Redburn was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 2955, Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714 and the Moose Lodge, all in Dodge City. He was involved with Boy Scouts for over 50 years, earning the Silver Beaver Award and St. George Medal.
On Jan. 31, 1953, he married Kathleen “Kate” Fleming at Dodge City. She preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 2002.
Survivors include his son, Dennis Redburn and wife Marla, Great Bend; his daughter, Sara Smith and husband Rawlin, Dodge City; a son-in-law, Kenny Zielke, Dodge City; two brothers, Melvin Redburn and Howard Redburn and wife Barb, all of Wichita; 10 grandchildren, J.D. Smith, Andy Smith, Dustin Sullivan, Trilby Haller, Colby Sullivan, Joshua Adams, Shay Zielke, Wesley Zielke, Brandy Caro and Stacy Millette; and 19 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Zielke; a sister, Helen Maye Neff; and a brother, Alfred Redburn.
Vigil service followed by Knights of Columbus rosary will be 7 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Cathedral with Fr. Terrance Klein presiding. Friends may call from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City, with military rites by Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714 and KSARNG.
