LYONS — Benjamin “Ben” Jesse Bates, 41, died Oct. 13, 2015, at Weld County, Colorado. He was born Nov. 13, 1973, at Powell, Wyoming, the son of Steven and Mary Walters Bates. He graduated from Teton High School in 1992, and then graduated from Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho with a Construction Management degree. He married Angela “Angie” Leigh Barnard on May 2, 1997, at Salt Lake City, Utah. A Lyons since 2008, formerly of Driggs, Idaho, he was owner-president of WestCrete-Concrete.
Mr. Bates was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a volunteer for Boy Scouts Troop 7111, both of Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Jesse, Luke and Oren Bates, of the home; three daughters, Cameryn, Caroline and Annaleigh Bates of the home; mother, Mary Bates, Driggs, Idaho; siblings, George and Susan Bates, Driggs, Idaho, Ruth and Bill Loveland, Burlington, Wyoming, Rachel Bates, Driggs, Idaho, Debra Bates, San Gabriel, California, Brenda and Ron Perry, Layton, Utah, Rebecca and Kipp Manwaring, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Kamele and Steve Crabtree, Paradise, California, Jennie and David Perry, Vernal, Utah, Frana and Terry Stanworth, Burlington, Wyoming, Martha and Lance Layman, Midlothian, Virginia, Charlotte and Ben Loveland, Kearns, Utah, and Maren and Christian Phillips, Eagle Mountain, Utah. He was preceded in death by a son, Jack Bates; and his father.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Great Bend, with President Sterling G. Knapp presiding. Burial will be at Bates Cemetery, Driggs, Idaho. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the church in Great Bend. Memorial donations are suggested to the Benjamin Bates Memorial Fund, in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
