GAINESVILLE, Mo. — Bernard F. Mauler Jr., 84, of Gainesville, Mo. passed away on June 16, 2020 in Mtn Home, Ark. He grew up on a farm outside Olmitz, Kan.  He moved to Otis, Kan. as a young adult, where he resided until he moved to Gainesville, Mo. in 2010.

Bernard was born March 28, 1936 in Great Bend, Kan., the son of Bernard and Minnie (Skolaut) Mauler Sr.

He graduated from Otis High School in 1954. Bernard worked at Dunmar Propane Station, Marlet Coach Co., Department of the Interiors, KRH (Kansas Refined Helium), both locations. He served in the National Guard from 1954 - 1971.

While he lived in Kansas, he was an active member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church and a Knights of Columbus 4th degree member.

He married Janice Scheck in 1957 and they were married for 24 years. They had four children together.

On July 20, 1985 he married Billie (Friend) Johnson. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and brother. He loved farming and had cattle until he moved to Missouri in 2010. He loved to work in his wood and metal shop, the NRA, guns, reading and his trains. He was always excited to see his family and hear what everyone was doing.

He is survived by Michael Mauler of Great Bend, Kan.; Susan Grimes and husband Fred of Auburn, Calif.; Michele Johnson and husband David of Gainesville, Mo.; Sandra and husband Jeff Kuhn of Clovis, Calif.; Larry and Janet Johnson of Gainesville, Mo.; two brothers Gerald and Lois Mauler of Great Bend, Kan. and Alvin and Marcy Mauler of Lawrence, Kan.; grandchildren Michael Mauler Jr., Trenton Mauler, Hannah Grimes, Matthew Grimes, Zachary and Kari Johnson, Danielle and Reid Murphy, Tyler Kuhn, Hesston Johnson, Misti and Mason Eslinger, Laramie and Brianna Johnson; great grandchildren Michael Mauler III, Jaxson Mauler, Abel Mauler, Kayleigh and Wyatt Johnson, Addilyn and Raiden Murphy, Payton and Tate Eslinger, Landon Johnson.

Thank you to Michelle Woodward and Judy Haskins (our extended family) for their love and caring of both Bernard and Billie. Their great care helped keep them at home.

He was preceded in death by Billie Mauler; his parents; and Julie Mauler.

Visitation will be Friday, June 19th at 5 p.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville, Mo. A Catholic service will be held on July 13th at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Olmitz, Kan. A rosary will be said at 10 a.m., followed by the mass at 10:30 and burial in the St. Ann’s Cemetery to follow. He was cremated following his request. Due to Covid-19 concerns, face masks and social distancing are recommended. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. John’s Evangelist Church, c/o St. Ann’s Church, 122 E. 5th Street, Hoisington, KS  67544.
