Bernard LaVern John Pfannenstiel 1939-2014

Bernard LaVern John Pfannenstiel, 74, died Oct. 6 at Hays Medical Center, Hays. Born Sept. 20, 1939 at Ness City, he was the son of Linus and Vera (Schlitter) Pfannenstiel.
He married Patricia Hickel July 28, 1962 at Ellinwood.  They later divorced.  He was a machine operator and shader for Kansas Brick and Tile for 45 years.  Mr. Pfannenstiel was a Great Bend resident since 1983 coming from Hoisington and Claflin.  He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, being a brick layer, family gatherings, landscaping, and playing bingo and pool.
Survivors include two sons, James Pfannenstiel and John Pfannestiel, both of Great Bend; three daughters: Cindy Andrulis and her husband David of Lyons, Michelle Williams and her husband Larry of Springdale, Ark., and Christine Martinez and her husband James of Great Bend.  He is also survived by four sisters: Mary Ann Zulkoski of Hastings, Neb., Cathy Brungardt of Burlington, Inez Tauscher of Arkansas City, and Sarena Pfannenstiel of Arizona; five brothers: Jerry Pfannenstiel of Phoenix, Ariz., Frank Pfannenstiel of Russell, Linus Pfannenstiel, Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas, Arnold Pfannenstiel of Overland Park, and Vincent Pfannenstiel, Salina; as well as nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mike Pfannenstiel and Joe Pfannenstiel.
A Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Bryant Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 at Bryant Funeral Home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at  10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend with Fr. Don Bedore as celebrant. Interment will be at St. John Catholic Cemetery, Hoisington.  Memorials are suggested to Renal Care Group, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.  Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net
