Bernice Moore 1925 - 2018

HOISINGTON — Bernice Moore, 92, known as “Gram Bee” to her own grandchildren as well as to her Roosevelt kindergarten classes, passed away on July 13 at Country Place Living, Hoisington. She was born October 4, 1925, in Carnegie, Okla., to Elbert and Bernice (Wells) Mitchell.
Bee attended Southwestern Institute of Technology, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a degree in education. It was there she met the love of her life of 49 years, Robert “Bob” Moore, M.D. They were married August 12, 1946, at Arapaho, Okla. Bob passed away on December 31, 1995. Bee helped put Bob through school working as a medical secretary in the coroner’s office in Oklahoma City.
Bee and Doc moved to Hoisington in 1954 after completing his medical internship. She spent her life as a wife, mother and secretary in his practice. Bee was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, PEO, VFW Auxiliary, Tri-N and 4-Aces Bridge Clubs, the Clara Barton Hospital Auxiliary, and a volunteer reader to the kindergarteners at Roosevelt School.
Bee is survived by her daughter, Anne Martin, D.V.M., and her husband John of Hoisington; brother, Bob Mitchell and his wife Margaret of Whitney, Tex.; and two sons-in-law, Walter “Mac” Gibbs of Weimer, Tex. and Michael “Mike” Dickinson of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, Kristan Martin and fiancé Daniel, Tracy Williams and husband Cody, John Robert Martin, Brennan Gibbs, Christian Gibbs and Michael Dickinson; and one great grandchild, Finley Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; two daughters, Maureen Gibbs and Martha Dickinson; three brothers, Charles Mitchell, Jack Mitchell and Don Mitchell; and by one sister Anne Novotny.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Hoisington, with The Reverend Gary Wolf presiding. Interment will follow at Hoisington Cemetery, Hoisington. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials have been designated to Robert Moore, M.D. Scholarship Fund, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, KS 67544.
