ST. JOHN — Bertie Lou Hayden, 88, passed away on Nov. 15, 2016, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Born on Sept. 17, 1928, in rural Hudson, she was the daughter of Jacob and Nettie (Ricker) Siefkes. On Dec. 22, 1951, she married Leo L. Hayden of Hudson. He survives, of the home. She was a graduate of Emporia State Teachers College. A life-long Stafford County resident, she was a retired school teacher.
Mrs. Hayden was a member of Peace Church in Hudson and First United Methodist Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband Leo; a daughter, Connie Sue Schmidt (James), of Bel Aire; and a granddaughter, Megan Schmidt of Bel Aire. She was preceded in death by both parents; a daughter, Denise Lee Hayden; two brothers, Melvin and William Siefkes; and two sisters, Marie Giesler and Gladys Dunn.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 at Trinity Community Church in Hudson with Pastor Lennie Maxwell presiding. Burial will follow at the Peace Cemetery north of Hudson. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Friday, with family present from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Trinity Community Church or the Peace Church in care of the funeral home.
